Like A Boss
Anyone else afraid of the Boss Lady Title? Its original references when given to women were negative such as the word Diva. Domineering, controlling, and often abusive of those who have to answer to her. But becoming a boss is a part of mastering life. Especially once we become women of a certain age. We shed the internship phase, and all become BOSSES to some extent – of our household, the second head in our relationship, and certainly the manager of our career paths.
One woman who lived this out loud is entertainer Diana Ross, the first woman I knew with the moniker The Boss. She also had a lot of dirt slung her way for putting herself first. It takes looking out for oneself to be healthy enough to go for your success and to experience it.
Now that I am going to be fifty-two, I think the challenge in this decade is just that boss label. The label of mastery. Of being able to manage and influence others if need be towards a common goal often in my service. Even if the scale does not get so large, due to internal resistance, my own efforts need to be internally consistent towards my goal rather than away from it.
Self-mastery, the era of the she bosses, does rise in all of us. And its okay. It may be perfect.
